The BON offers assistant services during classes at the University. Assistive assistance may include:
- transportation assistance, e.g., helping you get into a building with architectural barriers and providing the necessary assistance to enable you to fully participate in class (getting to the classroom, removing outerwear, getting things out of your bag/backpack);
- Taking class notes;
- making a transcription (in real time or from the provided recording);
- recording of classes;
- streaming of classes;
- assisting with class registration;
- assistance during laboratory classes;
- assistance during a visit to the dean’s office, library or other place related to academic activities and indicated by the authorized person;
- other assistance resulting from the characteristics of the eligible person’s course of study, classes, or disability.
Important. The service does not include personal and home assistance such as support in maintaining personal hygiene, eating meals, dressing, administering medications, performing nursing and grooming activities. It is available only during classes.
How to get assistance
register with the Office for Persons with Disabilities (BON),
evidence health difficulties by presenting medical documentation or the original disability certificate, or a certified copy of it,
schedule an appointment with a BON Consultant to discuss your health situation. During this meeting, the Consultant will present and discuss the possibilities of assistant support, individually tailored to the health situation.
Within 14 days of the consultation, a UW BON student affairs staff member will specify and inform you of the support granted or issue a denial of assistant support with a detailed explanation.
Once you have been granted assistant support (only then), fill out an application for ordering assistant services. This way, you will arrange specific services with deadlines.
To use assistant support, you must accept the Regulations for the use of assistant support provided to people with disabilities.
The assistants are coordinated by Mr. Tomasz Nurzynski, e-mail address: transport@uw.edu.pl
