What does it mean
Changes in the organization of studies (often referred as IOS) are individual modifictions and adaptations of studying process.
The individual support solutions are intended to eliminate specific barriers caused by your health situation. They are meant to level your playing field in acquiring and presenting knowledge and functioning in an academic community.
Note: Adjustment is not “relief” or “ ease” of study. The level of academic requirements that apply to all students will not decrease. Support only allows you to find an individual way to meet them.
Examples of applied changes in the organization of studies:
- modification of the form of the exam (use of a computer, adaptation of the exam sheet, extension of the duration of the exam, necessary changes in the environment),
- modification of the limit of permissible absences – note: the maximum granted absenteeism limit is 50%, but in some courses it may be lower – it depends on what size of attendance is necessary to complete the course with the expected skills
- Change of deadlines for settlement of obligations, etc.
How benefit from changes in the organization of studies (IOS)
Decisions to make changes in studies are made by the dean or the director for students’ affairs at the proper didactic unit. The BON recommendation may be required in the decision-making process.
Receive the recommendation of the BON:
- Register to the BON and document health difficulties requiring adjustments to equalize your chances during studies ;
- Schedule an appointment with a BON consultant to discuss your health and student situation. Consultations are conducted in person, over the phone or through an online communicator of choice.
- Complete the application for changes of organisation of sudies during studies in USOS system;
- Let us know that you have applied in USOS. The system isn’t messaging us automatically about student’s applications
Our opinion about the state of health based on medical records is sent along with the student’s application to the Dean/Head of Student Affairs. The BON opinion does not contain detailed medical information. However, describes the general nature of your health situation, possible problems and confirms the relevance of the application.
After receiving positive decision on the Department, the student should establish with the teachers all the details concerning the way of passing the exams.
Adjustments do not apply automatically. You can request the arrangement of a particular exam. To use particular adjustments, it is necessary to arrange this directly with the instructor before each exam or through an application on the BON website.
Remember, in order for the exam to take place with the adjustment, specific preparations can require some time. It may be necessary to reserve a room, schedule a longer time, provide computer equipment, prepare an adapted exam sheet, etc. That’s why it’s so important to inform about the need to arrange changes at least 7 days before the exam.
